Our Mission
At the Haven, we are driven by a profound love and compassion for all creatures great and small. Founded and nurtured by a Shelley Hill, "Momma," our sanctuary is dedicated to 1. providing a safe haven for animals in need. 2. We want to partner with other local, larger, rescues to reduce unwanted dog and cat populations by raising money to sponsor the spay and neuter of pets whose families cannot afford the procedure.
Rescuing a homeless and sick animal is a wonderful mission.
HOWEVER, reducing unwanted populations is the sustainable solution.
A mating pair of dogs and all their unneutered offspring can add up to
over 60,000 dogs over 6+ years. Please, donate to the Haven so that
we can stop this never ending cycle.
We believe in doing the right thing by providing the best medical care for every animal we rescue. Veterinary care is essential for ensuring the health and well-being of our animals, but it can be costly. Your support helps us give these animals the second chance they deserve. Thank you for making a difference in their lives!
Tied to a post with twine day and night - Sarah suffered a deep wound around her throat along with skin infection and many fleas/ticks.

With care, she's healed and is starting to play and run with confidence.
Through our unwavering commitment to animal welfare, we strive to create a world where every creature is valued, cherished, and treated with dignity.

Even seemingly healthy animals can face sudden health issues. When we bring a new rescue into our haven, we never know their full health status. Unexpected medical needs can arise, and it's our commitment to provide immediate and comprehensive care. Your support ensures that every animal gets the treatment they need, no matter what surprises come our way. Thank you for standing with us and our rescues!

Chili was a pregnant dog who was temporarily being cared for by someone in the Village. Her owner had died, and this kind man took Chili into his home - but given her impending birth - he turned her over to friends which lead to coming into the Haven.

Chili's first puppy suffered from a detached placenta and didn't survive. After 18 hours her other 5 puppies were born. Within 36 hours, Chili developed a severe mastitis infection that took over 6 weeks to heal. Her 5 remaining puppies also succumb to infections during their brief lives. Thankfully, Chili made it! Today - she is still timid and yet tender and loving. She is a permanent resident of the Haven.

Thank you to another local rescue (El Refugio) for covering her extensive medical expenses as we didn't have the resources.
